The Big Question - How much water is enough water?

How do I know, how much water to drink?

I'm often asked in my business about drinking water. Clients state that I drink and I drink and I drink water and I'm still dehydrated. I drink lots of water and I still feel sick and awful.
Water is a primary food, something we should not play with, you need to drink water for good health.

Half your weight in oz. … so if you are a 100 lbs then you would need to drink 50 oz of water.

In liters:
Your weight in lbs x .0295= _______ divided by 2 = your water consumption in liters

What type of water should I drink?

I recommend to my clients distilled water. In our day we have the most pharmaceutical drug intake and also chemicals coming from farming practices. Our water system funnels water through the sewer system and water ways.  There is not a filtrations system that I can find, that will 100% filter out those chemicals.
So what would you drink if you had a choice between chemical soup or guaranteed clean water?
Distilled water is available in a bottle in your grocery store, home distiller or bottled water delivery.

According to Dr. Mercola - Symptoms of Chronic Dehydration

The primary symptoms of dehydration are: thirst, dry skin, dark coloured urine, and fatigue. But there are also a number of commonly overlooked symptoms that may suggest you’re suffering from more or less chronic dehydration. Such symptoms include:
  • Digestive disturbances such as heartburn and constipation
  • Confusion and/or anxiety
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Premature aging
  • High cholesterol

Summer Hydration - replenish your electrolytes

Electrolyte Drink
Here is a updated version of the old fashioned summer lemon aid. Well think about it, why the word "aid" in lemon aid. Because this drink came to the aid of the sweaty non air conditioned homes in the heat of the summer. Lemons and all citrus are full of electrolytes. Coconut water and salt are too.
You can carry this wonderful drink in a thermos or a water bottle to sport events or out for your daily run. If you have a family member who works out side in the heat. Slip this in their lunch. They will come home smiling.
Ingredients
1/4 cup of freshly squeezed lime juice
1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon or orange juice
1 ½ to 2 cups coconut water (coconut water with no sugar added)
1/8 teaspoon of sea salt
2 tablespoons unpasteurized honey or stevia, to taste

Directions
Add the honey to the coconut water and mix well. Put the fresh squeezed citrus into a pitcher add the balance of the ingredients and stir well.

Option to add ice for a delicious and replenishing summer drink.  Serve on a hot summer day to friends or family. This also is a power packed sport drink for the summer athletes to replenish electrolytes.

What are electrolytes, and why do we need them?

Why do they matter? There are tons of electrolytes out there, but in our bodies they are basically calcium, sodium, potassium, magnesium chloride, hydrogen phosphate (a mineral) and hydrogen carbonate (a salt.) These electrolytes are vital for survival. They regulate our nerve and muscle function, our hydration, the pH of our blood, rebuilding damaged tissue, and determining blood pressure. One example of their job would be in order for a muscle to contract it needs the electrolytes calcium, sodium, and potassium. Too little and muscles become weak, too much and they over contract.

Found a leek and used it for Lunch

Sweet Potato Leek Soup
We were at the Market on Saturday and as we were driving up to find a parking spot. When we spied a fresh bundle of leeks blocking our way into our parking spot. Someone must have been packing their produce from the market and dropped there fresh leeks.
Well I have to say we did look around and see if an owner could be seen, but no one was around. My next comment was Leek soup is on the menu for us tonight. So can I go as far as to say we had a free lunch!
You will love this recipe, it's easy, fast, nutritious. Nothing better than that, I say.

Serves: 6 to 8 servings

Ingredients:
2 large or 3 smaller leeks / cut lengthwise and clean (use only the white parts, chop into strips)
2 tablespoons of avocado oil (or grapeseed oil)
6 cups of distilled water
2 med size sweet potato (I found purple sweet potato in the organic market and they were wonderful) wash and dice into ½ inch squares
dash of marjoram or oregano fresh or dried
½ teaspoon of dried thyme or 2 teaspoons of fresh thyme
½ teaspoon of dried chili flakes (hint add more if the soup is to sweet from the sweet potato, the chili’s won’t make the soup hot to the taste. It will only balance the sweet taste)
salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
In a soup pot add the oil and the fresh leeks. Cook in the covered pan for 10 min. over low heat. This will wilt the leeks.

Add the water and sweet potatoes. Bring to a low simmer and cook for 20 mins.  Take half of the soup and put it into a blender and blend till pureed. Return to the soup pot and the rest of the soup. Add to the soup pot, spices, salt a pepper to taste. Simmer for 5 mins.

Serve this wonderful flavoured soup with great confidence and a big smile. Garnish with fresh parsley is a great presentation.
