Turmeric
Well when I was in India I was introduced to Turmeric as a yellow
coloured powder that you streaked your forehead with when visiting a temple.
Then it was only after taking some
training in how Ayurveda theory that food/spice we eat can have a positive or
negative effect on us. I also learned the wonderful effects this spice has on
our body.
So it is with a great deal of respect that
I offer this root to you to review. In India you will see Tumeric used in most of the
dishes. Now in North
America I want
you to notice it’s use as a medicinal supplement. Turmeric by some is
known as a “natural wonder” for its many healing properties.
Here
is a list of some of the great things that turmeric has long been used:
- It is
a natural antiseptic and antibacterial agent, useful in disinfecting cuts
and burns.
- When
prepared along with cauliflower, it has shown to prevent prostate cancer
and stop the growth of existing prostate cancer.
- It
has prevented breast cancer from spreading to the lungs in mice.
- May
prevent melanoma and cause existing melanoma cells to commit suicide.
- Is a
natural liver detoxifier.
- May
prevent and slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease by removing
amyloyd plaque buildup in the brain.
- May
prevent metastases from occurring in many different forms of cancer.
- It is
a potent natural anti-inflammatory that works as well as many
anti-inflammatory drugs but without the side effects. therefor it is a
natural treatment for arthritis.
- Has
shown promise in slowing the progression of multiple sclerosis in mice.
- Is a
natural painkiller.
- Has
long been used in Chinese medicine as a treatment for depression
- Has
been shown to stop the growth of new blood vessels in tumors.
- Speeds
up wound healing and assists in remodeling of damaged skin.
- May
help in the treatment of psoriasis and other inflammatory skin conditions.
- May aid in fat metabolism and help in weight management.
The great thing is, turmeric taste is not
strong and can be added to so many recipes while boosting the healing benefits
of meal. I have also added it to some of our juices are found it to taste
quite nice. Sprinkle it on salads, or add some lemon juice and turmeric
to half an avocado. This one is an easy one to include in your daily
lifestyle.
Turmeric can be found in powdered form
(use in recipes, juices etc) but also in capsule form if you would rather not
worry about the meal aspect and just get the benefits straight from the source.
